WOOD

Wood is a material acquired from trees, it is easier to transport and work with than other natural material. Wood has other advantages like it is strong in tension and compression. It also has disadvantages such as susceptibility to mold, fire and termites; also it is not uniformily strong in work, because it contains moisture.
Wood is used in buildings both in solid and skeletal structures. For this reason it has two systems of construction, first is “Log Construction”, that is about four walls which are built up together with uncut primitive logs, and second system is “The skeletal System” that provides a rigid framework of jointed or nailed members independent of the walls, which are attached to the exterior and interior surfaces after completion. Even though in Venezuela wood is not used as a structure system but as a decorative and complementary element, there is a house in Higuerote built all with wood following the Skeletal System model, and this is my grandparents´ vacations house.
So wood is very important in some places and moments. For instance, I know about other constructions with wood, such as survival buildings which are typical of the Scouts. For example the scouts build this survival constructions in woods including element like tables, kitchen, and shelters; this is my experience in Scouts of Venezuela.
